Eligibility Criteria for UGC NET December 2025

Candidates must satisfy the following criteria to be eligible for the UGC NET examination:

1. Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have a Master’s Degree or equivalent degree/diploma/certificate from a UGC-recognized university in their chosen subject.
  • Minimum aggregate marks required:
    • General/Unreserved/EWS: 55% marks (without rounding off).
    • OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender: 50% marks (without rounding off).
  • Appearing Candidates: Candidates in the final year or semester of their Master’s degree, whose result is still awaited, may also apply. They must complete their Master’s degree within two years from the date of the NET result with the required percentage of marks.

2. Age Limit (As of the first day of the month of the examination, i.e., December 01, 2025)

  • For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): The candidate should not be more than 30 years. Age relaxation is provided as per NTA/UGC rules for reserved categories (up to 5 years for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, and women applicants).
  • For Assistant Professor: There is NO upper age limit for applying for Assistant Professor eligibility.
